The End of the Beginning; Completing Our Pilot Project
At the inception of HFG project, PhotoPower Nigeria set out to
accomplish 3 main objectives:
·
Empower
the children in the orphanage to use photography to tell their own stories and
advocate for better living conditions.
·
Create
awareness about the orphanage to the greater Abuja community and vice versa.
·
Generate
revenue for academic material at the Melchizedek Academy in the orphanage
We have successfully achieved the first 2. Fortunately for the
HFSO beneficiaries, a school in Abuja donated academic materials during the
course of this project, taking care of the 3rd objective.
So we had a talk with the Caretaker of the orphanage and discussed
what would be an alternative way to utilize the money raised from the auction
that would be of long term benefit to the kids.
What we decided, was to purchase tools that would help the
beneficiaries sustain and further improve their newly acquired skill set. We were able to purchase 4 digital Cameras (2
Samsung, 1 Lumix and 1 Sony), 4 SD cards for the respective cameras and a photo
printer (including printing paper of different sizes, ink etc.).
We hope that this equipment will give the kids an avenue to
express themselves and to tell their own stories. Studio 24 has also graciously
offered to give lessons and tutorials in editing and other photography topics
we were unable to cover.

Oh behalf of the PhotoPower Nigeria core team and most especially the beneficiaries at HFSO, we would like to thank all of our volunteers; the photographers, individuals and groups that dedicated funds, services and valuable time to our cause and people that supported this initiative. Without you guys, none of this would have been possible. We express our deepest gratitude.
Thank you,
Core Team
