MISSION OF PHOTOPOWER
To empower the Nigerian youth to advocate for a better future, through photography.


HOPE FOR GISHIRI PROJECT
This is the pilot project of PhotoPower. The beneficiaries are the children in the Hope For Survival Orphanage, located in the heart of Gishiri village, Maitama Extension, Abuja. The orphanage 
supports children physically, spiritually, and mentally. Since 2003, the orphanage has also become
home to more than forty-five children, from a few months to nineteen years old. The orphanage is also blessed to have their own school, Melchizedek Academy.


OBJECTIVES
  • Empower the children in the orphanage to use photography to tell their own stories and advocate for better living conditions.
  • Create awareness about the orphanage to the greater Abuja community and vice versa.
  • Generate revenue for academic material at the Melchizedek Academy iin the
    orphanage

PLAN
To empower the children in the orphanage, PhotoPower will be executed in the following steps
  • Introduce photography to ten teenagers at the orphanage, during a two-week workshop.
  • Work with professional photographers based in Abuja, who will provide voluntary support during the project. 
  • Go on photo-walks within Gishiri and greater Abuja community.
  • Host an exhibition to showcase and auction selected pictures at the end of the project, at the orphanage.
